We’re not giving up anything, we’re giving in ~ to the calling of our heart’s vision, living our nature of abundance and prosperity, where the gold in our pocket is the fruits of our labour; a pocket full of fruit and a sack of beans grown in the soils we help mother Earth restore. The bounty of the land is limitless and she wants to give it all up to us too, so we help each other out and we remember that we too are grown from these soils, that we are growing home.

We realized we were holding ourselves captive to a life of survival by working long hours for money to pay for a roof and four walls, food in our bellies, and stuff to keep us entertained in the meantime. It was a never ending cycle of trying to get ahead to stay ahead, but falling back because life was too brutally routine otherwise. We didn’t particularly like the whole job thing, and when you follow the sequential reasoning behind why you have a job in the first place, you realize you can get rid of the job thing if you decide to get rid of all the reasons that resulted in having one. We live in the city because that’s where the jobs are. We live in a box because we live in a city. We have a job because…

So we quit our jobs, purged our stuff, got on our bicycles and left behind the container-living culture in search of a place that we did want to call home. We live in a box. Ok. Get out of the city, get out of the box. That part is easy, but what about the food thing? The food in grocery stores, farmer’s markets, and road side taquerias all require money. Again, follow the reasons that lead up to you buying food in the first place, and you come to the simplistic understanding that it’s just not growing around you. Food grows up from the Earth, and does so freely, and so why rely on others to bring it to you, when you can find a place to grow your own.

Oh, and that place. It is nestled in the trees near the mountains or by the ocean, on a hill side or in the valley, where life pulses in a symbiotic dance of fresh spring water and clean air.  The birds and the bees thrive in the fruit trees and sing us awake every morning, in time with the sun who wakes up slowly over the blanket of greenery sheltering the rich soils of the land. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks – we hop into the garden, or catch the fallen fruit.  We eat fresh and plentiful so as to keep our energies and spirits lifted for the tasks of the day, which we relish with gratitude.  All of the work we put in is for the benefit of our future and for those who come next, and we are surrounded by people who feel Alive and support our own Aliveness so that we thrive together as Caretakers of our mother Earth.

Follow us on our journey and see where the road takes us as we grow home.
